In this video, we look at infrared spectroscopy. First we explore how covalent bonds vibrate in organic compounds and how this can be used in infrared spectroscopy. We then look at interpreting infrared spectra for alcohols, aldehydes and ketones, and carboxylic acids. We then explore how the absorption of infrared by greenhouse gases is leading to global warming and then we look at the practical applications of infrared spectroscopy.
