Temperature measures the average kinetic energy of particles within a system, revealing how “hot” or “cold” it feels. Faster-moving particles mean higher temperatures, while slower ones mean lower. Scales like Fahrenheit and Celsius give standardized points for freezing, boiling, and body temperature, allowing easy temperature comparison across different systems.
