“I guess I’m fighting for the right to fight when I get back home.”

For Black History Month, USC Shoah Foundation features the testimony of Paul Parks, a Black and Native (Seminole) American WWII veteran. In his interview, Paul describes his involvement in liberating the horrifying Dachau concentration camp in Germany, and relating to a prisoner through his understanding of Black slavery in America.

Many years after WWII, Paul served as the Chairman of the NAACP Education Committee, and was a member of the Massachusetts State Advisory Committee to the US Commission on Civil Rights. Through these roles, Paul became notable for his involvement in desegregating public schools in Massachusetts.
