Elizabeth Spitz recalls her father’s efforts to ensure that the 19,000 Jews confined to the Satu Mare Ghetto had fresh Challahs for the holiday of Shavuot.
The Satu Mare Ghetto was established in the beginning of May 1944. By the end of May – a few days after Shavuot – most Jews had been deported to concentration camps.
