Join Hirshhorn Museum educator Tiffany McGettigan for an active exploration of art meets science. We’ll explore techniques to help learners look closely, experiment creatively, and learn about science concepts through playful artmaking. Together, we’ll use materials from your junk drawer to create suspended sculptures inspired by the work of artist Eva Hesse. This project is one of many hands-on projects from the HIRSHHORN KIDS at Home series, designed to keep kids of all ages engaged and interested in exploring art and making. Participants will leave with ready-to-use activities and free online resources for learners in and out of the classroom.
Come with materials that can stretch and suspend! You might look for string, rope, crepe paper, produce nets (like the kind onions or oranges come in), old ripped nylons or tights, balloons, and other suspense-full materials. What can you find?
