I had the great pleasure of having an extended conversation with Keith Quinn for the SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) Learncast. Recording this podcast on learning was genuinely a highlight of my week. Keith asked some thought-provoking questions, and we had a great, varied (if sometimes rambling) chat. We spoke for over an hour, but I feel like we could have continued for much longer.

What we discussed

We discussed a range of topics related to online and digital learning. We started with blogging as a way to “show your work” and reflect on your practice. Here are some of the topics we covered:

  • How to find time to blog
  • Scenarios and stories
  • Providing information versus practicing skills
  • Engaging learners
  • “Learning is practice and reflection” (Stephen Downes)
  • Using tools that aren’t intended for learning
  • Social learning
  • Chatbots
  • Estimating time to create elearning (“the curse of ‘this won’t take you long’”)
