In 1938, Germany annexed Austria in an event known as the Anschluss, and laws against Jews were immediately enacted. Forced to become German citizens, Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss and her family lost their Austrian nationality, and received new German passports that identified them as Jewish. In 1942, Eva and her family went into hiding, and moved locations frequently to remain undetected. In this USC Shoah Foundation clip, Eva discusses being separated from her mother, and her mother’s incredible journey to reunite.
