Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world. They lay the tiniest eggs. They lay one to two eggs and these eggs are placed in a walnut shell-sized cup woven from spider webs and plant material. They are named after the humming noise their wings make in flight. The hummingbird is the only bird species which can fly backwards.
