“I stopped hating, I started living” | Elly Gotz | Genocide Awareness Month | USC Shoah Foundation

Holocaust survivor, Elly Gotz, was born in Kovno, Lithuania. During World War II, teenage Elly survived the Kaunas ghetto, Kaufering Lager I concentration camp, and Dachau concentration camp. He was liberated from Dachau by United States armed forces in April, 1945.

This is Elly’s second recorded testimony housed in USC Shoah Foundation’s Visual History Archive. Elly was 90 years old at the time of interview (2018). His first testimony was recorded in 1987.

Today (2023), Elly is 95 years old and still living in Toronto, Canada. He continues to tell his story and educate students on the dangers of hate.

April is Genocide Awareness Month.
