“I ‘sucked it up’ for 50 years” | Jewish-American WWII Veteran Alan Moskin | USC Shoah Foundation

“‘Suck it up.’ – That was the mantra. […] I ‘sucked it up’ for 50 years.” October 17 is World Trauma Day.
American soldier, Alan Moskin, participated in the liberation of Gunskirchen concentration camp in May 1945. Like the prisoners he liberated, Alan was Jewish.

In his testimony, Alan describes the chaos at liberation, as soldiers were forced to improvise, emergency responders were scarce, and benevolent efforts sometimes resulted in unexpected consequences.
