STEM, STEAM, and design thinking are buzzwords in education today. In addition to true STEM projects, we also work to include the arts in all subjects. The U.S. Toyota Dream Car Art Contest is the perfect contest for classrooms across the United States. Specifically, this art contest combines design thinking and the arts. Definitely, download the lesson plan and entry forms now. Then, enter between November 1, 2019, and January 31, 2020. (Also scroll down for a special art supply giveaway just for readers of this post.)

Entry Guidelines

The U.S. Toyota Dream Car Art Contest is open to children aged 4 – 15 in the United States. First, the artwork must be hand-drawn. Then, it will be judged on execution, uniqueness, and artistry of concept. Additionally, students can use paint, markers, and/or colored pencils. Before you start, check out winners from last year’s contest.

How to Use the U.S. Toyota Dream Car Art Contest in Your School

In particular, here are several subjects that fit well in this competition:

  • STEM labs
  • Art
  • Engineering design
  • Design thinking
  • Public speaking
  • Cross-curricular units
  • History of technology courses

Furthermore, if you collaborate with other subject areas, teachers can each cover a portion of the content in the lesson plan.

Last year, Sydney Bella Yian Cui, age 6, was awarded the Gold Award in her age category for her artwork, “Toyota Magical Piggies.”

Real World with Imagination Integration

Certainly, the future of automotive technology is a fascinating topic for technology courses. Consequently, this contest will also spark practical discussions about the history of automobiles. After discussing history, have future-facing conversations about topics like self-driving cars and AI.

Then, your students can imagine the future. Take a look at Sydney Bella Yian Cui’s winning entry. As you can see, students can use imagination and artistry to share dreams of the automobile’s future

In summary, in addition to their artwork, students will need the entry forms and their parents to sign off on their entries. Now, all information on this project is found on the contest website.
