Inclusive Hiring at Microsoft Using Minecraft: Education Edition

Microsoft Accessibility and hiring teams have developed an Inclusive Hiring program utilizing Minecraft: Education Edition. A version with audio descriptions can be found here: https://youtu.be/NYDfsUoBLY4

With this program, neurodivergent candidates join a customized world in Minecraft to complete projects as a group, presenting an opportunity to illustrate skills in competency areas of teamwork, creative problem-solving, leadership, and communication. These are critical skills that can be shown in real-time through participation in each team exercise, as candidates work together and communicate via voice and chat and feel empowered to bring their authentic selves to the interviewing experience.

This team has also created a playbook, with the University of Washington, serving as a “how to guide” advising employers on what it takes to start a Neurodiversity or Autism Hiring Program, which can be found online at https://aka.ms/MEENeurodiversityHiringPlaybook.

In addition to that, they’ve published a set of hiring inclusion resources available to candidates seeking support in their work search, or to building inclusion in an organization’s interview process.
