Predator-prey population cycles demonstrate how populations of predators and prey interact and influence each other’s growth. In general, as predator numbers increase, the prey population declines, leading to a decrease in predators. Over time, the prey population may begin to increase, restarting the cycle. The example of the snowshoe hare and Canadian lynx shows how predator and prey populations can vary in relation to one another.
