What Kits Did We Test?

We selected some kits to get students excited about matter and also sustainability and water. I appreciate that these are aligned to Next Generation Science standards and that everything is included and ready to go.

Clearing the Water Kit: In this kit, students design a water filtration kit. Everything is included for fifteen groups of Green Chemistry: The Production of Biodiesel: In this experiment, students will make crude biodiesel and understand more about “green chemistry.” This also includes enough for 15 lab groups.
Properties of Matter: What is Oobleck? This is the perfect lesson for introducing matter as students back the solid/liquid Oobleck. Students learn the properties of matter and the differences between solids and liquids. While this is recommended for younger students, it is also a great introductory lesson about matter and includes enough for ten lab groups.

Recently, I had teen genius, Gitanjali Rao, on the 10 Minute Teacher podcast and she made it clear that when her teachers started teaching science with hands-on experiments that she started learning and understanding science. She said that lecture and taking notes didn’t teach her anything.

My friend DeMarco opened his kit and was ready to teach the lesson with handouts, lab groups and ready to use materials.
