CONTENT WARNING: This video discusses suicide.

“It was not unusual.”

In her USC Shoah Foundation testimony, Holocaust survivor Yolan Frank describes the regular occurrence of suicide in the Auschwitz II-Birkenau death camp. For Mental Health Awareness Month, we remember the many Holocaust victims who died in this way.

Yolan Frank was born in Transylvania, Romania in 1927. She survived the Satu Mare ghetto, Auschwitz II-Birkenau death camp, Mehltheuer concentration camp, and Nürnberg concentration camp. Yolan was liberated by United States armed forces at Mehltheuer.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
