Teaching the American Civil War and the Holocaust | Egon Guttman | USC Shoah Foundation

Holocaust survivor and law professor Egon Guttman was born in Neuruppin, Germany in 1927. Egon survived the Holocaust by escaping to Britain on the Kindertransport (Children’s Transport). In 1958, Egon immigrated to the United States, where he became a law professor. In his USC Shoah Foundation testimony, Egon praises the meaningful way American children learn about the Civil War and slavery in the United States, and hopes that Holocaust education may be similarly taught.
