Teaching With Design: How can we promote sustainability in classrooms and raise awareness of the impacts of climate change through teaching and learning across subject matter curricula?

Join 2021 National Design Award winner Doris Sung (Climate Action Award for InVert™ Self-Shading Window) and educators from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum to understand how the museum’s Learning Lab collections, digital resources, and virtual field trips can support teaching and learning about climate change across disciplines and curriculum. The session will show resources that can be used to center climate change and take action within art, history, social studies, and STEM curricula. Participants will be introduced to the design process as an adaptable support tool to help students create, evaluate, and revise all types of projects and learning outputs. Finally, Sung will guide educators through a simple, hands-on activity borrowed from her design process that can be adapted to suit learners of all ages and across all subjects.
