Brooklyn, NY – The Obstacle Course Racing World Championships, the only independent global championship for OCR is proud to announce the launch of its new athlete ranking system. This is an unprecedented method to rank and create a global narrative surrounding the best male and female pro athletes throughout the year, leading up to the 2019 championships.
The Top 10 Athlete Ranking system is unique as it does not rely on points alone. Employing the input of an international committee comprised of well-informed OCR authorities, the rankings take into account the performance of racers in different locations, and different events, to measure their successes against each other.
With votes being cast monthly by the committee, this system aims to rank athletes worldwide who are unable to compete against each other, before they compete head-to-head at the World Championships taking place in October 2019 in Essex, UK.
Votes will be initially cast from a prescribed list of 15 male and 15 female pro athletes, who competed at OCRWC 2018. Each of the voters are allocated 5 ‘write-in’ entries per month which they can use to highlight up and coming athletes, or athletes who were unable to compete at OCRWC ’18.
Every month this list of successful athletes grow as our committee uses their knowledge and experience of the global OCR scene to measure the success and performance of the racers across different obstacle course race brands globally.
Whilst different countries and brands publish their own points-based system, this initiative marks the first time athletes are ranked across multiple brands worldwide.
“We are excited to launch this new system and hope that it creates friendly competition and debate amongst the community, and keeps the spirit of OCRWC alive all year,” said Adventurey CEO, parent company of OCRWC, Adrian Bijanada. “We believe that the caliber of the panel we have chosen will give an accurate and fair representation of the performance of our very best athletes worldwide. We also hope to bring attention to the lesser known, but high performing athletes who work so hard throughout the year, but often fly under the radar.”
Following the announcement of a new 100-meter race format to debut at OCRWC 2019 this system shows OCRWC’s commitment to innovation and progression of the sport & competition.
The OCR World Championships are the only independent global championships for the sport of Obstacle Course Racing. Its mission is to unify, promote, and increase participation in the sport of OCR while celebrating its athletes and community.
