Work is energy transferred to or from an object via force. If a net force acts in the same direction an object is moving, it does positive work on the object (kinetic energy increases). If a net force acts in the opposite direction an object is moving, it does negative work on the object (kinetic energy decreases). Power is the rate that work is done, or equivalently, the rate that energy is transferred.
