How have perceptions of online education quality changed over time?

Online education has grown in popularity, and faculty are teaching online in greater numbers than ever before. If teaching online is becoming a key part of instructional roles, understanding what faculty think about online education is really important. This video reports on the analysis of 5 years of the Survey of Faculty Attitudes on Technology conducted by Inside Higher Ed. We found that when faculty weren’t quite convinced that online education is meeting student learning outcomes as well as face-to-face education. These perceptions are improving over time, however, and faculty believe that online learning excles when grading and communicating grades, communicating with the college or university, and reaching exceptional students. Studying this topic can help us understand some of the challenges that faculty face as online education grows, and how we can improve the quality of online education.
