The newest student organization to charter a chapter at American Public University System (APUS) is the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). This organization is a professional society for those in the field of aerospace engineering.

Start a degree program at American Public University.

Students and alumni in our space studies and electrical engineering programs are encouraged to become members. AIAA has more than 35,000 individual members from 80 countries, who look to inspire and innovate and progress throughout the United States and the world.

APUS Has the First-Ever Online Chapter of AIAA

There are over 200 student chapters of this organization worldwide. But the APUS chapter is unique – it is the first online student chapter.

We are excited to see what this partnership can bring. Chapter advisors and faculty members Marvine Hamner and Ed Albin will lead this new student organization, along with the students and alumni who join it.

Sign up by April 15 to attend the Space Education and Strategic Applications (SESA) Conference in Washington, D.C.!

The Advantages of Membership

AIAA offers a number of different membership types — including professional, educator, student, e-Member, corporate and associate — but the APUS chapter will focus on student membership. The AIAA website also features a video that highlights some of their student members.

The benefits of joining this organization as a current student or alumni member include:

  • Access to the latest industry reports
  • The opportunity to connect and network with other student chapters and their members
  • Access to scholarships to help fund graduate and undergraduate education
  • Professional recognition
  • Opportunities to participate in competitions, publications and local events

For more information about joining AIAA or to become a member, visit the AIAA website, then fill out the APUS AIAA online form.
