M.A. in Sociology Has Some Unique Features
This degree has been carefully developed to give master’s students more experience in real-world, job-related skills. These skills include social science research, data analysis, grant writing and communicating information to a non-specialist audience.
In addition, faculty members in this academic program will act as advisors and mentors, providing one-on-one, discipline-specific guidance. Faculty members in this program are both scholars and active practitioners in sociology-related fields.
Program director Jennifer Cramer says, “In developing this degree program, we reviewed extensive data from employers and professional societies. Students in our undergraduate sociology program also provided us valuable feedback, giving us important insight about what would be most important to our student body in pursuing a graduate degree in sociology. We wanted to ensure that this new master’s program not only met the needs of our students, but also current employers in the market.”
