As you explore our catalogue of 850+ topics, follow these tips for actively viewing BrainPOP movies with your students.

Before:
Spark interest by asking your child to share what they know about the topic. Encourage a personal connection—it will motivate them to watch!

For example, before a movie about recycling, ask “How do we recycle in our classroom? Why do we recycle?”

During:
Pause and ask questions throughout the movie, or invite your students to ask questions. Pause at new vocabulary and have them explain.

BrainPOP provides discussion prompts and pause points for many of our topics. To find them, click the Lesson Idea button below the Movie player on BrainPOP.com, then look for the Related Discussion Prompts button.

After:
Invite your child to share at least three new facts or ideas they learned from the movie using Make-a-Map. Vary the activity by grade level.

For example, a 3rd grader may simply identify three facts about the topic, while a 5th grader will identify a problem and connect the solutions.

Yes, all BrainPOP movies have a closed-caption option. While the movie is playing, click the “CC” button in the movie player controls to toggle the closed-caption on or off.

Is there any way to slow down movie speed?
Yes. Click the gear icon in the movie player controls while the movie is playing. You can choose from two speeds: original and slower.

Is there any way to reduce the resolution of the movies?
Yes. Click the gear icon in the movie player controls while the movie is playing. You can choose two quality levels: high and low. The low quality version reduces the resolution of the movie without significantly affecting image quality.

Are there transcripts for BrainPOP movies?
Yes. You can find transcripts for all of the movies on BrainPOP by clicking Movie Transcript under the description on the topic page.
