From Empathy to Understanding to Action: Mapping Covid-19 Across the Disciplines

Join educators Emily Veres (IBDP Biology and Theory of Knowledge teacher at an international school in the Netherlands) and Veronica Boix Mansilla (Principal Investigator at Project Zero, Harvard Graduate School of Education) to explore how investigating contemporary global pandemics can provide opportunities for middle and high school students to develop global competence and cultivate empathy through perspective-taking. We’ll focus specifically on a four-tiered, multidisciplinary approach to investigate Covid-19, but the approach can be applied to any global issue. Participants will leave with ready-to-use activities, free online resources, and a pattern of inquiry that will give agency to students and engage them in interdisciplinary exploration.

This interactive webinar is part of a series of professional development webinars focusing on techniques to use digital museum resources for learning. Check out other Smithsonian Learning Lab webinars: https://learninglab.si.edu/help
