Jewish Resistance During the Holocaust | Survivor Aron Bielski Bell | USC Shoah Foundation

Aron Bielski Bell was born in Stankiewicze, Poland, in 1927, where he lived on a farm with his parents and multiple siblings. In July of 1941, the German army invaded Stankiewicze. Aron’s three oldest brothers refused to be moved to a ghetto, and fled to the nearby woods.

Two, unfortunately, did not survive. In December of 1941, Aron’s parents were murdered in their village during a mass killing. The Bielski brothers who survived formed a partisan group composed entirely of Jews, under the leadership of the eldest brother, Tuvia. The Bielski Brigade’s primary mission was saving Jewish lives. They encouraged and helped Jews in nearby ghettos to escape, and welcomed them into the unit. Aron played a tremendous role in bringing Jews from the ghetto to the Bielski’s forest encampment.

In this USC Shoah Foundation clip from Aron’s full testimony, he describes being a Jewish villager in Poland, and the oppression they faced.
