What is the name of this plant in your area?
Mimosa pudica is a member of the pea/legume family. The leaves fold inward and droop when touched or shaken and re-open a few minutes later.
It can be found in many places around the globe specially in the Southern United States, South Asia, East Asia, Micronesia, Australia, South Africa and West Africa. It is well known for its rapid plant movement.
The leaf bends upon being touched. This happens due to changes in the turgor pressure in its cells. This behaviour is a predator avoidance mechanism.
