Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! December 24 is Christmas Eve, and the seventh night of Hanukkah in 2022. When she was a child, Jewish Holocaust survivor, Ruth Adler, lived with a Christian foster family who graciously included Hanukkah in their holiday celebrations.

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the liberation of Judea from Assyrian Greek occupation and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after its defilement. The Talmud records that a miracle occurred during this rededication: the menorah (candelabra) of the Temple was lit with enough sanctified oil to last one day, but remained lit for eight days. This event is commemorated by lighting candles of a Hannukiah (Hannukah candelabra) for eight days.
