Happy Hanukkah!December 25 is the eighth and final night of Hanukkah in 2022.
Jewish Holocaust survivor, Dina Sofer, was a teenager when she was imprisoned in the Wilno (or “Vilna”) Ghetto.

In her USC Shoah Foundation testimony, Dina recalls how the community continued celebrating Jewish holidays, despite lousy conditions and limited resources. Dina describes Hanukkah in the Ghetto as “the biggest Hanukkah party [she] ever went to.”
Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the liberation of Judea from Assyrian Greek occupation and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after its defilement. The Talmud records that a miracle occurred during this rededication: the menorah (candelabra) of the Temple was lit with enough sanctified oil to last one day, but remained lit for eight days. This event is commemorated by lighting candles of a Hannukiah (Hannukah candelabra) for eight days.
