Happy Hanukkah!

December 18 is the first night of Hanukkah in 2022.

In her testimony, Holocaust survivor Ester Fiszgop recalls Hanukkah being one of the most significant Jewish holidays during her childhood.

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the liberation of Judea from Assyrian Greek occupation and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem after its defilement. The Talmud records that a miracle occurred during this rededication: the menorah (candelabra) of the Temple was lit with enough sanctified oil to last one day, but remained lit for eight days. This event is commemorated by lighting candles of a Hannukiah (Hannukah candelabra) for eight days.
