Aayana is a 9-year-old girl who lives in Calgary, Alberta. She is Canadian-Ghanaian and loves cooking traditional Ghanian dishes with her family. She shows us her impressive skills in the kitchen as she makes peanut butter soup, before taking us to an African shop to pick up some kente cloth, which is worn on special occasions – like to Aayana’s uncle’s wedding! After, Aayana has a piano lesson and shares her ambition to compose her very own music. Her creativity doesn’t stop there – she also loves creating new games at the park with her friend Jayden. At the ice rink, Aayana practices her skating moves – transforming into an African princess on ice! – and receives an encouraging message from one her role models.

Sunny’s Quest features first-person stories told by Black children from across the country.  Each episode showcases a different child and their unique perspective on their day-to-day hobbies, their talents, and heritage. This season’s adventures include: a 10-year-old Canadian Haitian gymnast and future Olympic hopeful; an 11-year-old half Jamaican and part-Indigenous boy who found his true passion for dance at a young age and dreams of being a professional hip hop dancer; a 9-year-old boy of  African Nova Scotian/ Guyanese and European Descent who comes from a long line of advocates for racial equality and is following in his family’s footsteps; and many more!
