This video details the findings of a research study on teaching emotional mindfulness to fight the spread of misinformation.

There is some evidence to suggest that emotional mindfulness can change how people react to online misinformation. When we slow down and pay attention to the way that our actions are being driven by our feelings, we often make better decisions about how to respond.

Our research team designed an an educational comic, with the goal of teaching emotional mindfulness. The comic was shared with 295 adult women in Canada and the U.S, who were asked to complete a survey about it.

Our results show that this learning intervention is an effective tool for teaching emotional mindfulness in the face of misinformation, but that it also needs to be more engaging if it is going to capture attention in a social media environment.
