The National Anthem, followed by the School Hymn, “O God our help in ages past”, marked the solemn beginning of the Prefects’ Investiture ceremony.
The oath-taking, administered by the Principal, Mr. Ainsley Edgar, was initiated with students of Grades 5 to 10, who seemed eager to take on the duties and responsibilities of class monitors. The Junior School Supervisor, Mrs. Leona Kingsellers, was asked to present the monitor badges for students of Grades 5 to 7, while the Middle School Coordinator, Mr. Francis D’Souza, carried out this worthy task for students of Grades 8 to 10.
The responsibility of handing over the prefects’ badges to the Junior College students was aptly taken over by the Junior College Coordinator, Mr. Deepak Rajput and those for Captains, Vice Captains and Sports Captains by the Vice Principal, Miss Uttara Kulkarni.
The cream of the crop, the Head Boy, Varun Pillai, the Head Girl, Anna Cox, along with the Vice Head Boy, Kaushal Mhatre and the Vice Head Girl, Maheeka Raj, had the distinction of receiving their distinguished badges from the Principal, Mr. Edgar, who inspired the office bearers with examples of Admiral Karambir Singh, an alumni of Barnes, who expressed his love for the school and the unbreakable bond that students share by gifting the Sikorsky UH-3H Sea King, twin-engine helicopter, which now stands majestically in front of the Girls’ Hostel.
The Principal exhorted the students to stand for what is right and always decide for the greater good when choosing between two correct stands.
The event had a fitting finale with the feisty school song, “Onward Barnes! Upward Barnes!”, as a tribute and mark of respect to this great institution.
