The Online Recycling Band is a remote-learning solution as part of The Song Room’s 2021 DUET Mentoring Program.
Charles shows how it is possible to move beyond technology as a substitution for traditional learning to redefine and transform learning through creativity. Rather than working in a regular classroom, students worked from home and at school, and all came together online with a real-life composer in his studio.
The project took place over the last three weeks of Term 3, and involved students from three Victorian primary schools.
1. Students were asked to gather objects around the house or classroom that could be played
2. These were recorded individually and the files were uploaded to a shared folder
3. Over 75 individual recordings have been arranged into a short soundscape.
The project was organised by Charles MacInnes and supported by performing arts staff Suzanne Kelly (Casterton Primary School), Michelle Barnes (Williamstown North Primary School), and Cassie Stringer (Edenhope College).
