Sometimes you just can’t find the time to physically be in a class. That’s no problem
at Terra State! We have many online classes that you can complete from anywhere. We
also have a few completely online degrees available. So no matter what your reason
for wanting to take classes online, we are here to help you!
What do you offer online?
Terra State has four degrees that are offered completely online – Healthcare Administration and a transfer pathway in Mortuary Science, along with the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science general degrees. Many other degrees and certificates are offered that have courses
that can be taken online.
Here are just a few of our popular online course options:

What technology requirements are there for being an online student?
In order to be successful, online students need to have certain hardware that can
handle the technological requirements of coursework. We recommend having access to
the following hardware:
- Memory: 4GB of RAM Minimum, 8GB or More Recommended
- Operating System: PC: Windows 7 SP1 or later, Apple Mac: OSX Yosemite 10.10 or later
- Internet Connection: 20Mbps or higher (20Mbps is minimum needed for video content)
- Web Browser: Google Chrome, IE 11 or greater, Safari version 10.1.2 or greater
The following devices are not recommended because they will not support many features
of Canvas and Office365:
- Mobile devices such as Cell Phones and Tablets running any version of Android
- Mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads running iOS
- Google Chromebooks or similar netbook devices running Android, Google ChromeOS, or
Linux
Individual courses may have other requirements in addition to the specifications listed
above. Please be sure review any specific requirements within each course.
How are online courses structured?
This is decided by the instructor and will vary from course to course. Most have structured
schedules for assignments (due dates) but all give you the flexibility to go through
the content on our own schedule – maybe you are a night owl or need to complete your
coursework while the kids are at school. You can do that, just make sure you are aware
of the opening and closing dates for assignments.
An online education is not for everyone. Students wishing to pursue distance learning
must be dedicated and motivated to succeed. Our most successful students are active
learners in their courses and are prepared to put in the time it takes to ultimately
earn their degree. This means having those important soft skills such as time management
and organization. While the time investment in each course varies, a rule of thumb
dictates that students should expect to spend 1 to 2 hours per credit hour per week.
This means that in a 3 credit hour online course, the student should expect to work
3-6 hours per week.
Do I have to come to campus?
You are NOT required to come to campus if you are seeking a fully online degree or
just wish to take online courses. Academic and Career Advising offers phone appointments
for initial advising.
You have access to ALL services that an on-campus student has including tutoring and
library services. You may find you need to take a proctored exam at some point. If
this occurs, contact the Academic Service Center.
