The National Day of Service and Remembrance honors the first responders, public servants and the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The National Day of Service and Remembrance also calls the community to action to promote acts of kindness, compassion and service to educate the next generation.

Two APUS Student Organizations to Create Gardens and Outdoor Reading Spaces for a Charles Town Elementary School
On Friday, September 6, the American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU) chapter of the West Virginia Students’ Alliance (WVSA) and Golden Key International Honour Society will sponsor and participate in the National Day of Service and Remembrance event at an elementary school in Charles Town, West Virginia.
Local students, alumni, university faculty and staff members will promote literacy and contribute their service by restoring gardens and setting up outdoor reading spaces for elementary school students.
WVSA Chapter President Geoffrey Koch said, “This particular project is deeply personal to me. We will be donating our time to improve a space at my former elementary school. It is beyond rewarding to represent the chapter on a project that has a direct impact on our community.”
WVSA and Golden Key International Honour Society Two of Many University Organizations
WVSA and Golden Key International Honour Society are two of more than 70 student organizations at American Public University System. Each has its own mission rooted in leadership, service and community engagement. Student organizations follow the University’s Chapter Standards Program.
Established in 2017, WVSA’s goal is to bring recognition to the issues facing the state of West Virginia and present opportunities to assist, serve and lead projects that make a difference. AMU and APU students, alumni, faculty and university staff members are WVSA members.
Golden Key International Honour Society is the world’s largest collegiate honor society with over 400 chapters worldwide. The AMU and APU chapter is one of the largest online chapters, with students and alumni members around the globe contributing acts of leadership and services in their communities.
