Here we present you 6 free online courses about COVID-19 as the main topic, or that are related to it during this time.
Fighting COVID-19 with Epidemiology: A Johns Hopkins Teach-Out
If you’ve been meaning to understanding the large-scale implications of COVID-19 from a public health perspective, and how they’re measured, this course outlines all of that. Johns Hopkins University is well-known for their work and research on public health, so to have them release a course like this is rather fitting.
A student’s review from their course page: “Excellent course. It was very informative and highly useful to further understand the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, it provides a very good introduction about epidemiology.” – Houda Y.
Mind Control: Managing Your Mental Health During COVID-19
As a contrast, this course is more “micro” in focus. Rather than focusing on the epidemic from a public health perspective, it’s more about how to manage it personally. It covers topics like isolation, and ways to manage anxiety during such stressful times.
Primeros Auxilios Psicológicos (PAP). Edición especial COVID-19
This course is somewhat similar to the previous one, but in Spanish. Rather than focusing on how one person can manage anxiety personally, however, its objective is to train the student to provide psychological help to others.
Science Matters: Let’s Talk About COVID-19
This is one of the earliest courses about COVID-19 to come out on Coursera, and we overviewed it back in March, in this post. Although the average rating isn’t as good as with the other courses (3.9 stars), it’s one more resource to refer to.
COVID-19: What You Need to Know
This course has 4.8 stars as average rating, and it’s a type of rundown about the topic, like the name suggests. It compares different countries’ approaches and situations, along with covering other topics, like the best practices that individuals must follow.
Similarly to the other courses mentioned here, the course page states that it’s constantly updated with the latest information provided by the “CDC, WHO, and other leading agencies”. The course content is a combination of videos, readings, and practice exercises.
Lesson | Video Conferencing: Face to Face but Online
Although not specifically about COVID-19, this is a mini-course that might be particularly useful during this time. Mostly aimed at non-native English speakers, the course goes over the basics of video-calling in a professional environment. The mini-course is considered a “lesson” because it’s only 5 minutes long (+ readings), and part of a larger course about speaking English professionally.
Bonus: Epidemiology in Public Health Practice Specialization (not free)
This specialization is made up of 5 courses by Johns Hopkins University, on the topic of epidemiology. Upon completion of the program, you’re able to get a certificate to share with potential employers.
One of the courses is titled “Outbreaks and Epidemics”, but there are four other courses before it. And this is why specializations are considered to be more in-depth than stand-alone courses.
