New Computer Technology and Master’s Education Programs Are Here

At American Public University System, we do our best to provide our students with up-to-date, career-relevant knowledge to prepare them for the future work they intend to do. Consequently, we frequently review our academic programs to ensure they fulfill students’ educational needs.

Start a degree program at American Public University.

In January 2020, we added three new programs to our catalog:

New Computer Technology Academic Programs Designed to Help Students Seeking Industry Certifications

For job seekers who want to work in cybersecurity or information technology, certifications are a valuable testament to one’s expertise. The A.S. in Computer Technology is designed to teach beginner skills, such as interpersonal communication, basic computing, web development fundamentals, productivity applications and programming essentials. This academic program is intended to be a useful complement to mandatory industry certifications such as Security+ and A+.

The B.S. in Computer Technology offers students the opportunity to build on their skillsets by studying topics such as computer-based systems organization processes and components, communication and network technologies, database systems, and information security management. The courses taught in this program are designed to complement industry certifications such as:

  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
  • Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • CompTIA A+, Security+ and Network+

Student Affairs in Higher Education Master’s Degree Intended for Students Seeking Advisory Roles in Education

Many universities and colleges are turning to specially trained individuals to serve as academic advisors, rather than using their faculty members. The Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education degree is intended for students who want to pursue career paths in areas such as advising, campus leadership, diversity services, student life, career services and other leadership roles in higher education institutions.

This degree program offers a unique mix of leadership and student affairs classes, with specialized coursework in distance education student affairs and leadership as well as practicum opportunities. Upon completion of this degree, students will have a broader knowledge of the educational field for both online institutions and brick-and-mortar schools.

The master’s in Student Affairs in Higher Education also offers three concentrations:

  • Advising
  • Campus Leadership
  • Career Coaching and Services
