Hi there. My team is getting ownership back of a textbook they wrote a few years ago, and would like to set up a course around it or otherwise make it available to the public. The current company that owns it has a feature on their website that I haven’t been able to find. When you’re reading the textbook, quiz questions are added in the same place they would be in a paper copy, with input fields and the ability to submit them. I know I’ve seen similar things in courses I’ve taken.

So far anything I’ve tried (like openEDX) allows me to use PDFs to create textbooks, but quizzes and activities are maintained totally separately.

Before I waste my weekend trying different solutions that don’t work, I wanted to see if anyone here is familiar with software that can handle all of this. Preferably something open source/free and self hosted, but if all the features are available in something external we might be open to it.
