Anaële is an 11-year-old girl from Ottawa, Ontario. Her family is from Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Anaële is very connected to her faith, which means a lot to her and her family. She is also a talented artist – her sketch books are filled with impressive drawings! In the kitchen, Anaële teaches us how to cook pondu, her favourite Congolese dish – yum! One day, Anaële hopes to become a professional basketball player for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). On the court, she practices her skills with her younger sister Ariana, who is grateful to have such an understanding big sister. Anaële’s special surprise comes from a role model who is also passionate about her favourite sport. When she isn’t drawing or playing basketball, she and sister Ariana like to play card games together. After, Anaële brings us to her African theater classes, where she explores all kinds of art forms and tells us about her favourite African mask!

Sunny’s Quest features first-person stories told by Black children from across the country.  Each episode showcases a different child and their unique perspective on their day-to-day hobbies, their talents, and heritage. This season’s adventures include: a 10-year-old Canadian Haitian gymnast and future Olympic hopeful; an 11-year-old half Jamaican and part-Indigenous boy who found his true passion for dance at a young age and dreams of being a professional hip hop dancer; a 9-year-old boy of  African Nova Scotian/ Guyanese and European Descent who comes from a long line of advocates for racial equality and is following in his family’s footsteps; and many more!
