Yaharra is an 11-year-old girl who lives in Whitby, Ontario with her family and golden doodle, Yobi. Her family is from the Commonwealth of Dominica and Jamaica. She loves doing arts and crafts and solving the Rubik’s Cube – her record is one minute and 23 seconds! In her room, she shows us her favourite things, before taking us to the golf course to practice her technique. One day, she hopes to become one of the first Black Canadian professional female golfers! Her special surprise comes from one of her role models who is also dedicated to the sport and encourages her to keep swinging. Back home, Yaharra teaches us how to make Dominican bakes – yum! Yaharra also enjoys playing chess with her brother Yusseuf and learning about traditional Caribbean dances – like bélé, one Dominica’s oldest dances.

Sunny’s Quest features first-person stories told by Black children from across the country.  Each episode showcases a different child and their unique perspective on their day-to-day hobbies, their talents, and heritage. This season’s adventures include: a 10-year-old Canadian Haitian gymnast and future Olympic hopeful; an 11-year-old half Jamaican and part-Indigenous boy who found his true passion for dance at a young age and dreams of being a professional hip hop dancer; a 9-year-old boy of  African Nova Scotian/ Guyanese and European Descent who comes from a long line of advocates for racial equality and is following in his family’s footsteps; and many more!
